Multi-year GEOS-1 Assimilation Data Subset for
Northern Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East
Data Assimilation is the process of ingesting observations into a model
of the Earth system. The Data Assimilation
Office (DAO) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center has run a stable
assimilation from March, 1985 through November, 1995 (The
GEOS-1 Multiyear Assimilation). This dataset is a regional subset of
the global output of the GEOS-1 Multiyear Assimilation.
The data sets include selected prognostic and diagnostic quantities
(both surface and upper air) from the full assimilated data set, restricted
to Northern Africa, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and part of Europe.
The data are given at a variety of temporal resolutions: 3-hourly, 6-hourly,
daily and monthly means. The
files are available at ftp://ftp.nasa.proj.ac.il/pub/geos-1/med.
A detailed description is available at http://www.nasa.proj.ac.il/guide/med-guide.html

description of the subset
by Arlindo da Silva and Pinhas Alpert (1996).
